Reception Miss Smith

Hello!

My name is Miss Smith and I am so excited to be the Reception teacher this year!

It has been a delight welcoming all of our Reception children into school these past few weeks and getting to know them all. All of the children have settled really well into our school life and routines and it is great to see them coming into school each morning with a smiley face.

During the children’s time in Reception, play and exploration is fundamental to their learning. This means that the children are able to choose activities where they can engage with other children, adults or sometimes play alone during a session that we call Super Learning. During Super Learning, the children will learn by first-hand experiences and by actively ‘doing’ as well as through scaffolding and modelling by adults. There will be a wide variety of planned and prepared activities by the adults, as well as allowing time for the children to initiate their own learning. We have a wonderful outdoor area that the children can learn in whatever the weather. The children are encouraged to develop their self-confidence, resilience to learning and independence throughout the school year.

Please note that the children will be participating in Forest School every Friday and will need to come to school with a clearly labelled bag containing all of their Forest School clothes e.g. overalls, wellies, hat, scarf, gloves – all weather dependant. Forest School enhances our curriculum and places a strong emphasis on raising all children's independence and self-esteem. The children will learn to care for our environment and develop their understanding and respectfulness of the wider world whilst building their resilience.

This year in Reception we are very lucky to have Miss Strong, Miss Abbott, Miss Roberts and Miss Magan working with us too. We also have our wonderful Pre-School children who share our Super Learning experiences with us.

Please feel free to follow our learning experiences via our Dojo App and our school twitter page. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Our door is always open 😊
